School Opening/Closing
Our school will be closing on Wednesday the 21st of June at 12 noon for our Summer holidays.
Our school will re-open on Tuesday the 29th of August at 9.20am. Our bus has been informed.

We would like to wish our sixth class pupils of Ethan Allison, Stella O Sullivan, Julia O Sullivan, TJ Cox, Maria Burns, Evan Breen, Ryan Breen, Lauren Sherbourne, Ryan Casey, Nicole O Sullivan, Pierce O Brien, Claudia Ganzo, Dorka Toth, Cillian Ryan, Iva Gligorova and Rosalyn Van Daele the best of starts in Pobalscoil Inbhéar Scéine in September.

Transition Programme for Sixth Class
This year we created an action packed, positive and fun transition programme for our sixth class pupils. We hope they enjoyed it and gained confidence in themselves and their abilities.
This transition programme involved
- Positive Transition with Paul Fairbairn (6 weeks)
- KDYS Transition Workshops (2 Sessions)
- Forest School (6 weeks)
- Active School Week Facilitators and Co-Ordinators (1 Week)
- Annual Football League Captains and Vice-Captains
- RSE One Day Workshop facilitated by In My Shoes.
Forest School
Each term this year 12 pupils from our school attended the Coille Mara Forest School.
Our pupils played games, built fires, formed teams and enjoyed cooking ,games and activities gaining confidence and finding friends along the way .
Our trips were a very positive and worthwhile experience for our pupils as they connected with each other and themselves surrounded by the beauty of nature.
In My Own Shoes 1.6.2023
On Thursday the first of June In my own shoes delivered a one day talk on Relationship and Sexuality Education in the Senior Room.
Our Annual Football League
Our Annual Football League began on Wednesday the 24th of May just when the sun came out and the grass on the football field was cut .Fast ,furious and competitive it is always a league like no other heralding the soon to be end of the school year! The teams picked for our School League are as follows:

Active Flag Week 24-28 April,2023
Our school enjoyed a very active and fun week in late April .Sixth Class took responsibility for organising and supervising all scheduled games and activities .Each break was filled with laughter ,games, fun and teamwork all to encourage and promote being active and healthy.

St.Michaels National School is commited to health and fitness.We believe that a fit,healthy student listens and learns to the best of their ability .Active Flag Week was the culmination of our work towards our second Active Flag celebrating fitness and health in the Curriculum and everyday school life as actively as we possibly can!!
Snowball and the Snow White Rap 17.4.2023
The middle classroom put on a fabulous show in April called Snowball and the Snow White Rap. Every class in the school had the pleasure of attending a performance. It was fun!

Infants Open Day 12.5.2023
Our Infants welcomed new pupils and their parents to our school on the 12th of May last. Our new Infants visited the playgrounds and played games and took part in activities in the Infant classroom. They met our own Infants and enjoyed spending time with them. It was a lovely morning and we look forward to the 29th of August when we can welcome them all to our school.
Irish Cancer Society Donation
On the day of the Easter holidays we had a non-uniform day for the Irish Cancer Society.
We raised €100 for this most worthy cause.
Senior Room Projects
The Senior classroom recently delved into the past and created wonderful projects on relatives from their past. These projects were informative and fascinating and well-worth a read .The stories about James Berkley Allison, Hanoria O Leary, Maria del Pilar Iglesias ,Mike Foley and Johanna Catharina Sophia Brits are just some of the projects on display in the hall .Do have a look!
NCSE Ticket
We have been successful in acquiring a ticket for support for Primary Curriculum Framework 2023-2024 in the new school year. This ticket will allow us to access support and information as we begin to incorporate all new initiatives ,suggestions and findings of the new Primary Curriculum Framework into our teaching and learning going forward.
Modullac Temporary Accomodation
Our Modullac Temporary Accomodation is complete and will be available to use in August,2023.
Girls Football Skills Competition
Congratulations to Rosalyn Van Daele ,Maria Burns and Stella O Sullivan who took part in the Cuman na mBunscoil Girls Skills Competition in Kenmare recently .A special congratulations to Rosalyn who took part in the County Final Skills Competition in Tralee and acquired a magnificent score !Comhghairdeas,Rosalyn,Maria agus Stella!
Boys Football Skills Competition
Congratulations to Pierce O Brien,Evan Breen and Cillian Ryan who did us proud by taking part in the Cuman na mBunscoil Boys Skills Competition recently.Well done ,boys!
Speech and Language Therapy 2.5.2023
Alanna O Connor,our Speech and Language Therapist recently visited our school completing assessments and in doing so made reviews and recommendations. We were delighted to accommodate Alanna and welcomed all the support she had to offer.
Stage 1/ 17.07.2023
The final drawings for our new building are now complete.We are just waiting for the paperwork for the seven now completed surveys so that we can meet the requirements of Stage One.We expect to be there on the 17th of August next.We will submit our Stage 1 paperwork the week we return when the Department of Education and Skills re-opens after the Summer holidays.The scheldule of events is as follows

‘Building Confidence and Connections’
The scheldule for our Summer Camp is below.The Rainbow Camp will follow the same scheldule for Week 1 and will then follow a new scheldule for Week 2.
Celtic Travelling Book Fair 17.5.2023-19.5.2023
Celtic Travelling Books came to our school recently for an end of year Book Fair.
We raised € 697.00 in book sales and €418.20 in Scholastic Rewards (Books) for the school. Thank you to everyone who bought books and in doing so raised much needed funds for our school.
Free Primary Schoolbooks Grant
Therewill be a €96 euro grant forschoolbooks ,workbooks ,copybooks for all school going children this year.
Where funding allows, some related classroom resources may also be provided by schools under the new scheme. The cost of the scheme will be borne bythe State.
All books,copies etc will be bought by your class teacher and given out on the 28th of August next.

School Food for Primary ,our lunch food provider is updating their food app for the coming school year .Please note this in the paperwork you will receive shortly from School Food For Primary and make all necessary changes to your childs food app. Please see the link below which notifies you of upcoming changes.

Continuous Professional Training/Mapa Training
Teachers and SNAs in the Rainbow and Sunshine Classrooms are currently in the process of receiving Mapa Training.
MAPA® Training means the Management of Actual or Potential Aggression. MAPA® is about responding to people in a non- judgemental way, treating them with respect and dignity whilst supporting them to stay safe.This training will take place over two days and consist of:
*Afternoon by Zoom 22.5.2023.
* One day workshop St. Francis Special School.
National Confidence Day,25.05.2023
On National Confidence Day each class discussed the meaning of confidence and how best to instill confidence in each other and our abilities each day.
The Senior and Middle Classrooms wrote ‘Dear Me ’letters highlighting their positive attributes and what makes them unique.
Our New School Uniform
On the 18th of May last a new uniform suggested by the school was voted in by you our parents .Designed by Nelligan Sports it comprises of a quarter –zip and tracksuit bottoms. The tracksuit bottoms are available in two styles-wide and narrow.
This uniform will be available to purchase online at the end of June,2023.

Payment/child’s medical card details for all pupils who wish to be considered for the allocation of a ticket for the 2023/24 school year must be submitted before 9 June 2023 On buseireann.ie/schooltransport. After this date, this will be a late payment and tickets are not guaranteed to eligible pupils.
Bus Éireann Family Portal ClosurePlease note the Bus Éireann family portal will close for all applications and payments for a period of 3 weeks from 9 June 2023 to 30 June 2023 and it will not be possible to make a late application, or make a delayed payment or delayed entry of medical card details until the family portal reopens.
Art Supplies
We are very grateful to Rosie Crouch for the wonderful assortment of cross-stitch supplies she donated to our school recently .We are very lucky in the school to have artistic, creative teachers who will use these resources well to create masterpieces in the coming year.
